Compared with the Wii U version, Pokkén Tournament DX adds seven fighters: four already playable in Japanese arcades in 2016, one brand-new fighter, Decidueye, and two Battle Pass fighters, Aegislash and Blastoise. Here is what sets each of them apart.
The four fighters from the arcade
In Japan, Pokkén Tournament first came out as an arcade cabinet, on July 16, 2015. The cabinets received four fighters that never made it to the Wii U: Darkrai on July 20, 2016, Scizor on October 20, Croagunk on November 10 and Empoleon on December 15, 2016. In Europe, they can only be played in Pokkén Tournament DX.
Darkrai (Technique, 540 HP)
Darkrai is a distance specialist. Its Dark Void ability triggers a special phase, called Bad Dreams, during which some of its attacks, like Dark Pulse, gain power. Nasty Plot changes the properties of its attacks, and its Grab, Dream Eater, absorbs the opponent’s HP while filling the Synergy Gauge. Full profile: Darkrai.
Scizor (Power, 600 HP)
Scizor relies on Swords Dance, a Counter Attack that can be stored: each stock lets you chain another attack (Metal Claw, U-turn, Aerial Ace, Bullet Punch). In Synergy Burst, Scizor Mega Evolves and stores two Swords Dances at once. Its Grab, Bug Bite, steals the opponent’s status effects and can catch them in mid-air. Profile: Scizor.
Croagunk (Speed, 540 HP)
The most unpredictable of the fighters: several of its attacks randomly change the opponent’s status (Poison Jab, Thief) or its own (Acupressure). Thief is stronger when the opponent has a buff, Venoshock when they have a debuff, and Venoshock also reduces the HP the opponent can recover. Profile: Croagunk.
Empoleon (Standard, 630 HP)
Empoleon has a lot of HP and a very mobile game. Aqua Jet propels it and chains with other abilities, including Rock Smash, which pierces Counter Attacks and lowers defense. Ice Beam leaves a trail of ice it can slide on, and Defog cancels ranged attacks. Profile: Empoleon.
Decidueye, the newcomer
Decidueye, the Alolan Grass-type starter in its final form, is the only fighter added specially for Pokkén Tournament DX. A 570 HP Standard fighter, it has many ranged attacks, glides with Fury Attack and Razor Leaf, weakens the opponent’s attack with Feather Dance and becomes untouchable during Sucker Punch. Its Spirit Shackle ability even prevents the opponent from calling their Support Pokémon. It arrives with a new Support set, Litten and Popplio, the two other Alolan starters. Profile: Decidueye.
Aegislash and Blastoise, the Battle Pass
The Battle Pass, paid downloadable content, added two fighters: Aegislash on January 31, 2018 and Blastoise on March 23, 2018. Each came with a Support set (Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu, then Mew and Celebi), outfits and titles. The details are on the Battle Pass page.
Where to find them in the Ferrum League
All fighters are playable from the start in the DX version. To discover their moves, the Action Dojo in Training mode and free battle are the best starting points. The list of all fighters is on the Fighters page.
