Pokémon Shuffle succeeds Pokémon Link: Battle!, released on the 3DS Nintendo eShop the year before and developed by the same studio, Genius Sonority, known to fans for Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD. The principle remains the same, grouping identical Pokémon on a grid, but Shuffle replaces the paid game with a free-to-play model and adds catching, Mega Evolutions and content renewed every week.

The versions

  • Nintendo 3DS: the original version, downloadable on the Nintendo eShop. It made use of StreetPass to earn hearts. Since March 31, 2023, login bonuses, ranked stages and the download of special stages have ended; the game can no longer be downloaded since the closure of the 3DS eShop.
  • Pokémon Shuffle Mobile (iOS and Android): released from August 2015, it offers the same stages, with sometimes different settings (moves, HP, catch rates). It passed 13 million downloads in March 2017 and is still running: maintenance was carried out again from June 9 to 11, 2026.
