Pokémon Shuffle has lived by the rhythm of its updates: new areas, new modes, and, every week, new special stages. This page traces the game’s history, from its announcement in January 2015 to the mobile version still running in 2026.

2015: the launch

Announced in the Nintendo Direct of January 14, 2015, Pokémon Shuffle came out on the 3DS Nintendo eShop on February 18, with 150 normal stages spread across eleven areas and 20 Expert Stages, for 158 species. Mew was available from day one as a special stage. The first patches followed right away: version 1.0.2 fixed a bug on February 20 that allowed the use of every Pokémon, and version 1.1 on March 6 fixed a bug that gave out hearts and coins for free.

Content was added quickly: Daily Pokémon from February 23 (the Rotom forms), the first competition stage, Mega Lucario, on March 16, the Ludilo Factory on March 23, the first Safari on April 20. Version 1.2.0 on May 27, a mandatory download, separated regenerated hearts from purchased or gifted ones. Areas followed one another all summer and autumn: Pedra Valley, Albens Town, Magenta Center.

On August 25, 2015, Pokémon Shuffle Mobile came out in Japan, then on September 1st in North America, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

2016: arrival in France on mobile, and version 1.3

The mobile version arrived in France and the rest of Europe on January 20, 2016. The Castanea Desert, on February 15, added fifty stages at once. On March 23, version 1.3 modernized the game: a new home screen, a clickable map, the Poké Circuit, Card Missions, and SpotPass. Next came the skill improvement on May 17 (1.3.10), Swap Skill at the end of June (1.3.14), then the Blau Salon in July and the Graucus Hall in autumn. The Nacht Carnival opened on December 20.

2017: version 1.4

Version 1.4 on March 8, 2017 renewed the home screen and flags stages that offer gifts. In March, the game celebrated 13 million downloads on mobile. The Prasino Woods arrived in April and June, the Zaffiro Coast from August to December. Start-of-month challenges appeared in August, mid-month ones in October.

2018: the final additions

Version 1.5 on January 10, 2018 brought Trainer Level, consecutive login bonuses, and team saving. On February 13, 2018, the last thirty stages of the Brunus Path brought the game to 700 normal stages, with Expert Stage 53, Primal Groudon, and the 700 UX stages. The last Pokémon arrived over the summer, including Marshadow on July 17. After 2018, the game received no new content: special stages came back in rotation.

2022-2023: the end on Nintendo 3DS

In August 2022, the shutdown of several features of the 3DS version was announced. On March 31, 2023, the collection of login bonuses, competition stages, and the download of special stages came to an end. Normal stages and already downloaded special stages remain playable, but the game can no longer be downloaded since the closure of the 3DS Nintendo eShop.

2026: the mobile version is still here

More than ten years after its release, Pokémon Shuffle Mobile is still running. Technical maintenance took place from June 9 to 11, 2026, with no new content announced.
