Mega Evolution is at the heart of Pokémon Shuffle strategy. A Mega Pokémon placed at the head of your team can Mega Evolve mid-battle; its links then trigger a special effect that clears spaces, removes disruptions, or multiplies Pokémon of its species. This page explains how it works and lists the effect and source of each Mega Stone.
How to Mega Evolve
- Get the Pokémon and its Mega Stone: the stone is won by defeating the Mega Pokémon in a normal stage, in a competition (competition stage), in a Card Mission, or as a Trainer Level reward.
- Put it at the head of your team: only the first Pokémon on the team can Mega Evolve.
- Fill the Mega Gauge by matching that Pokémon. The number of Pokémon to match varies: 11 for Mega Kangaskhan, up to 33 for Mega Rayquaza.
- Enjoy the effect: once Mega Evolved, each link made by the Mega Pokémon triggers its effect. A Mega Evolved Pokémon never triggers two links at once.
Speeding up Mega Evolution
- Mega Start: this item makes the stage begin with the Pokémon already Mega Evolved.
- Mega Speedup: applied permanently to a Mega Pokémon, each Mega Speedup reduces the number of Pokémon to match by one. The maximum number of Mega Speedups varies by Pokémon.
- The Mega Boost skill (and its + and X variants) fills the Mega Gauge of Pokémon of the same type: pair it with a Mega Pokémon of that type.
The main kinds of effects
- Clearing in a pattern: X, Y, V, O, zigzags, or diagonals (Mega Charizard, Mega Absol, Mega Sableye…). Damage depends on the number of spaces cleared.
- Clearing around links: neighboring spaces or entire lines (Mega Audino, Mega Lopunny, Mega Kangaskhan).
- Clearing a species: up to ten Pokémon of a species of the same type (Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Salamence) or of a different type (Mega Rayquaza).
- Replacing: up to three Pokémon of the same type become copies of the Mega Pokémon (Mega Sceptile, Mega Mewtwo X).
- Cleaning up disruptions: blocks, rocks, and Coins (Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Alakazam) or Barriers (Mega Diancie, Mega Houndoom).
