Pokémon Shuffle is a free puzzle game released on February 18, 2015 on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, then on iOS and Android, in France on January 20, 2016. Developed by Genius Sonority, it follows the match-three formula: you line up at least three identical Pokémon on a grid to attack an opponent, then try to catch it. Over three years of updates, it grew to 700 regular stages, 53 EX stages, 700 UX stages and more than a thousand Pokémon, forms and Mega Evolutions.
The mobile version is still running in 2026; on Nintendo 3DS, the main online features ended on March 31, 2023.

How to play it today
Pokémon Shuffle Mobile can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android: it is the only version that still offers all the special stages, on rotation. On Nintendo 3DS, the game is still playable if it is already installed, with its regular stages and the special stages already downloaded, but it can no longer be downloaded.
Why it matters
Shuffle was one of the first free-to-play Pokémon games with in-app purchases, and one of the longest supported: new special stages every week and new areas every two or three months, from February 2015 to February 2018. Its formula, easy to pick up and hard to master, made it a pocket companion for millions of players.
