The game's principle

Lumiose City, day and night

The whole adventure takes place in a single city, but it changes face with the time of day. Drag the slider to go from day to night.

Lumiose City at night: the Z-A Royale
Lumiose City by day: exploration and Wild Zones
☀ Day☾ Night

☀ By day: explore and catch

Wild Pokémon live in Wild Zones enclosed by holographic barriers. Sneak up crouching, throw a Ball by surprise, take on the giant Alpha Pokémon. This is also the time for the main missions and the 203 side missions.

The 20 Wild Zones

☾ At night: the Z-A Royale

A battle zone lights up in a sector. Defeat the Trainers, preferably by surprise, pick up medals and bonus cards, earn a challenge ticket to play a qualifying match and climb from Rank Z to Rank A.

Our review

A bold Pokémon, finally jittery

16/20

Real-time battling changes everything, Lumiose City is full of detail and Mega Evolution has never been so spectacular. A single city and technical limits on Switch 1 keep it from scoring higher.
