In the Mega Dimension expansion, everything runs on Anya’s Donuts: fed a good Donut, Hoopa opens a portal to Hyperspace Lumiose, a mirror city populated by Pokémon from Lv. 100 to 200. How the rifts work, how to bake a good Donut, what the flavors are for: here is everything you need to know.
What Is Hyperspace Lumiose?
A parallel dimension, born from the memories and subconscious of Lumiose’s inhabitants and their Pokémon. It reuses pieces of the city, duller, suspended in the void, and sometimes places from other regions. Its inhabitants are materializations of memories, and its Pokémon are swollen with extradimensional energy: they are far stronger than normal.
The Rifts
Rifts appear all over the city and change with each switch between day and night. Each one is rated from 1 to 5 stars:
| Rift Rank | Recommended Level | |
|---|---|---|
| Lv. 105 | ||
| Lv. 120 | ||
| Lv. 140 | ||
| Lv. 170 | ||
| Lv. 200 |

Wild Dimensions
The equivalent of the Wild Zones, centered on one or more types. You’ll find Alpha and Shiny Pokémon, as well as floating Poké Balls to destroy, full of items and extradimensional Berries.

Battle Dimensions
The equivalent of the Royale’s battle zones, with Trainers specializing in certain types. The holographic Trainers only field high-level Alpha Pokémon, and give extradimensional Berries, Mastery Seeds and Capsules.

Unknown Dimensions
Marked with a “?”, they are tied to a side mission or to obtaining a Mega Stone. Mission rifts don’t close until the mission is completed.

Mega Dimensions
The arenas of the expansion’s Rogue Mega Evolution Pokémon. After the story, they let you fight them again, stronger still, for 10,000 research points and plenty of rewards.
On each exploration, you are offered three research missions (capture certain species, destroy rocks or floating Balls, win battles, hit with super effective moves…). They earn extradimensional research points, needed to progress in the story. Once all three are complete, a Bonus Ball appears: hit it with a move to collect a choice haul of loot.
Baking a Good Donut
- Anya sets up her kitchen at Hotel Z. Choose Berries: at first, only three per Donut.
- Each Berry provides calories (which determine how long Hoopa can hold the portal open, and so how long your exploration lasts) and a level (which strengthens your Pokémon once there). Aim for the highest possible values for both.
- The butters obtained during the story (Super, Hyper, Ultra, Master, then Extra Butter) increase the number of Berries per Donut, up to eight.
- The Donut receives a star rank. Preferably enter a rift of the same rank: with a Donut one star lower, your capture chances drop slightly (× 0.9); with a Donut two or more stars lower, they collapse (× 0.3).
- The harder the rift, the faster Hoopa’s energy drops.
Flavors and Their Powers
A well-rated Donut unlocks powers, passive bonuses active during exploration, across three levels. They are partly random, but the dominant flavor steers the outcome: a sweet Donut favors Alpha and Shiny appearances, a sour Donut affects the contents of floating Poké Balls.
Find Better
More Alpha Pokémon, more Shiny Pokémon (at level 3, the first Pokémon of the targeted type is guaranteed to be Shiny), more Pokémon, or more very large or very small specimens.
Hit Harder
Boosted Attack, Sp. Atk, Defense, Sp. Def or Speed, increased power for one move type, or reduced damage from a specific type.
Mega Evolve More
The Mega Power gauge fills faster, or Mega Evolution lasts longer.
Collect More
More items in general, or more Berries, Exp. Candies, treasures, Poké Balls, special items or coins.
