Before the Gym, take a tour of the city. The Fishing Guru’s older brother gives you the Good Rod, a very handy step between the Old Rod and the Super Rod. The Fuchsia City zoo displays rare Pokémon behind its fences. Finally, one house holds the specialist who makes a Pokémon forget a move, even an HM move: keep that in mind.

Invisible walls crisscross the Gym. Feel your way forward: when you bump into an obstacle, follow it until you find an opening. The simplest way is to follow the outer edge, then climb up the right side to Koga, in the center. Six Jugglers and Tamers block your path.

Poison-type Pokémon fear Psychic and Ground: Kadabra, Alakazam, Hypno or a Dugtrio with Dig work wonders. Watch out for the two Koffing: they know Self-Destruct, which can knock out your Pokémon in a single hit (and them along with it). Muk protects itself with Acid Armor and Minimize: hit it with special attacks or moves that never miss. Keep Antidotes on hand against Toxic.
