🎮The original games, as they were

No remake or remaster: these are the 2004 Game Boy Advance versions, faithfully emulated. Graphics, music, story, Pokémon and trainers are identical, which means our whole walkthrough applies to the Switch version. In Europe, each version exists in French, English, German, Italian and Spanish. Both games are sold as downloads only.

Nintendo eShop

Pokémon FireRed

The Charizard version, with Growlithe, Scyther, Electabuzz and Deoxys in Attack Forme.

Nintendo eShop

Pokémon LeafGreen

The Venusaur version, with Vulpix, Pinsir, Magmar and Deoxys in Defense Forme.

🤝Trades and battles

On Game Boy Advance, you needed a Link Cable or the Wireless Adapter. On Switch, trades and battles go through local wireless communication between two consoles, with no accessory. There is, however, no online play. Trading with a friend who owns the other version remains essential to complete the Pokédex.

🎫The free event tickets

This is the real novelty of this edition. In 2004 and 2005, the Mystic Ticket and the Aurora Ticket were only distributed at events, and few players got to enjoy them. On Switch, they are automatically added to your Bag after you enter the Hall of Fame. They open the doors to Navel Rock and Birth Island (step 19).

🏠Pokémon HOME and Celebi

Since October 7, 2026 and version 4.1.0 of Pokémon HOME, FireRed and LeafGreen can be linked to the app. You can deposit the Pokémon caught in these games there, then send them to the series’ recent games.

  • CelebiNo. 50PsychicGrass

Complete the FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex and receive Celebi, level 50, in Pokémon HOME on mobile. No need to transfer your Pokémon: every Pokémon registered in your Pokédex is also registered in HOME's.

💡Our tips for the Switch version

  1. Choose your version with trading in mind: if someone close to you already plays, take the other version to complete the Pokédex easily.
  2. Finish the Ruby and Sapphire quest before going after the legendaries: it unlocks the roaming beast and Cerulean Cave.
  3. Save the Master Ball for a roaming beast or for Mewtwo.
  4. For Celebi, don’t worry: the Pokédex keeps track of every Pokémon caught, even if it was traded or transferred afterward.
