The three legendary birds, a Johto beast roaming the roads, the genetic Pokémon lurking at the bottom of a cave, not to mention Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys, finally accessible to everyone on Switch. Here is how to meet them all, before facing a far more formidable Elite Four.

Objective
Catch the legendaries of Kanto and Sevii
Available
after the League, most of them after the Sapphire quest
Recommended gear
Ultra Balls, Timer Balls, the Master Ball
Recommended level
60 and above

🐦The three legendary birds

All three await you at level 50. You have probably already met Articuno in the Seafoam Islands (step 13) and Moltres at the summit of Mt. Ember (step 14). The third is hiding in the abandoned Power Plant: surf along the river that runs beside Route 10, south of the Pokémon Center. In the building, some items lying on the ground are actually Electrode: be careful, they explode.

  • ArticunoNo. 50IceFlying

Seafoam Islands. Ice and Flying: it is four times weak to Rock.

  • ZapdosNo. 50ElectricFlying

Power Plant. Electric and Flying: it is weak to Ice and Rock. A Ground Pokémon is not affected by its Electric attacks, but cannot hit it with Ground attacks.

  • MoltresNo. 50FireFlying

Mt. Ember (One Island). Fire and Flying: it is four times weak to Rock, and also weak to Water and Electric.

🐾The roaming beast of Johto

Once the Sapphire is brought back to Celio, a legendary beast of Johto starts roaming the roads of Kanto. Which one? It depends on the Pokémon you chose at the very start of the adventure.

🧬Mewtwo and Cerulean Cave

Northwest of Cerulean City, a guard only lets through League Champions who have helped Celio. Surf to the entrance of Cerulean Cave. The Pokémon there are of very high level (up to level 67). Mewtwo awaits you in the basement, at level 70.

  • MewtwoNo. 70Psychic

Psychic, it is weak to Bug, Ghost and Dark. Very fast, it hits hard with Psychic. If you have not used the Master Ball yet, now is the time: otherwise, put it to sleep or paralyze it and arm yourself with dozens of Ultra Balls and Timer Balls.

🎫Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys

Two mysterious islands were only accessible with tickets handed out at events, in 2004 and 2005. On Nintendo Switch, the Mystic Ticket and the Aurora Ticket are added to your Bag after you enter the Hall of Fame. Once Celio’s network is restored, show them at the port of Vermilion City: the Seagallop Ferry takes you there.

MysticTicket

Navel Rock

Climb to the summit to meet Ho-Oh, or go down into the depths for Lugia, both at level 70. Ho-Oh leaves behind a Sacred Ash.

AuroraTicket

Birth Island

In the center of the island, touch the triangle: it moves. Go to it and touch it again, until Deoxys appears, at level 30.

🔤The Unown of the Tanoby Chambers

Once you have solved the Tanoby Key puzzle in Sevault Canyon (step 18), the seven Tanoby Chambers open. Each one is home to Unown, at level 25, in different forms: the 26 letters, plus the exclamation mark and the question mark. Only the first form you encounter is registered in the Pokédex, but collectors have plenty to do!

  • UnownNo. 25Psychic

28 forms to collect in the Tanoby Chambers. It only knows Hidden Power, whose type varies from one Unown to another.

🏆The Elite Four rematch

Once the Sevii Islands quest is over, the Elite Four have trained: each member has gained twelve levels and a new Pokémon (Bruno’s Onix have become Steelix). The League Champion, for his part, now fields Tyranitar and Heracross.
