🌊Sea Routes 19 and 20

From the beach at Fuchsia City, surf south. Sea Routes 19 and 20 are filled with Swimmers, then you pass the Seafoam Islands, halfway to Cinnabar Island. (You can also reach Cinnabar Island by surfing from Pallet Town, via Sea Route 21.)

❄️The Seafoam Islands and Articuno

The Seafoam Islands form a maze of caves on five levels. At the very bottom, violent currents stop you from surfing to Articuno. The solution: use Strength to push boulders into the holes on the upper floors. They fall into the water below and block the currents. Proceed hole by hole, going back down each time to check the result.

The Cinnabar Island Gym is locked. The Secret Key is in the Pokémon Mansion, a ruined residence where scientists carried out experiments on Mew and Mewtwo, as the journals scattered around the rooms tell. Statues hide switches that open and close the doors: activate them until you open the way to the basement, where the key sits on a table.

🦴The lab

At the Cinnabar Island lab, a scientist revives your fossils: the Dome Fossil or the Helix Fossil from Mt. Moon, and the Old Amber from the Pewter City museum. Come back to see him after a short trip: your Pokémon is waiting for you, at level 5. Other researchers offer trades.

Our strategy

A fast Water Pokémon settles the matter: Surf knocks out his Pokémon in one or two hits. Rock and Ground Pokémon (Rhyhorn, Graveler, Dugtrio) also resist his flames. Arcanine, at level 47, knows Fire Blast: do not let it attack first. Ponyta and Rapidash use Fire Spin, which traps your Pokémon for several turns.
