Pokémon XD Walkthrough: the Shadow Pokémon Lab

The Area 1 leader put you on the trail of a building lost in the desert, south of Mt. Battle: it is the Shadow Pokémon Lab, reopened by Cipher. Professor Krane is being held prisoner there. This chapter follows chapter 8: Mt. Battle.

The Six Cipher Peons at the Entrance

When you arrive, six Cipher Peons in uniforms of different colors (red, blue, brown, yellow, purple and green) put on a show in front of the door before noticing you. You must beat all six to get in. Each has a Shadow Pokémon, always in last position: keep Poké Balls handy, this is your first big harvest of the game. If you miss one, it will reappear later in Phenac City.

Inside the Lab

As in Colosseum five years earlier, the lab is a maze of corridors and elevators. Battle the Cipher Peons and the researchers you come across: several have a Shadow Pokémon, and their conversations mention XD001 and the revival of Cipher, disbanded five years earlier.

A cutscene shows Professor Krane facing Cipher Admin Lovrina: she admires his work on purification and offers him the chance to help Cipher create a Shadow Pokémon that cannot be purified. Krane refuses, and Lovrina entrusts him to the spy who abducted him.

Further on, a researcher talks about XD001, which has become uncontrollable, then battles you before running to warn Lovrina. Take the elevator key lying on the table: it opens the locked elevator that leads to the room where Krane is being held.

The Spy, Then Lovrina

The spy battles you once more (Murkrow, Rhyhorn, Slakoth and Beldum, level 18). Once beaten, he lets you through: he does not share Cipher’s methods. Krane joins you, but the researcher comes back with Lovrina, who offers you the chance to join the organization. Refuse, and face your first Admin.

As she leaves, Lovrina drops a Disc ROM. Pick it up: you automatically return to the Pokémon Lab.

Back to the Pokémon Lab

Krane hands the Disc ROM over to a researcher at the lab for analysis, but the researcher cannot decipher it. Your mother, Lily, announces that the Purification Chamber is finished: you can now purify your Shadow Pokémon there, without going through Agate Village (see purification). Krane advises you to ask Nett for help in Pyrite Town.
