XD001 is the heart of Pokémon XD: a Lugia turned by Cipher into a Shadow Pokémon said to be “impossible to purify”. It appears right in the introduction, attacking the S.S. Libra, and is caught during the final battle on Citadark Isle.
Catching it
At the top of Citadark Isle, Greevil summons XD001 at Lv. 50, just before his own battle. This is the moment to use the Master Ball given to you by Professor Krane before you leave for the island. Without it, weaken it carefully: its Shadow moves (Shadow Blast, Shadow Shed, Shadow Down, Shadow Storm) hurt a lot. If you knock it out, you can try again by rematching Greevil after the credits.
Purifying it
The usual methods have no effect: neither walking, nor battling, nor scents lower its gauge. The only solution is the Purification Chamber at the Pokémon HQ Lab:
- fill all nine chambers, each with four Pokémon whose types battle in a circle, clockwise;
- check that all nine show maximum tempo (the chambers may contain other Shadow Pokémon being purified);
- place XD001 in one of them: it is purified instantly.
Once purified, it regains Featherdance and Psycho Boost, a move normally reserved for Deoxys.
