Sootopolis City, the city hidden in the heart of a crater, is the epicenter of the crisis. In the Cave of Origin sleeps the awakened legendary Pokémon… and you will have to calm it before you can face the last Gym Leader.

🌋Reaching Sootopolis City
Sootopolis City has no entrance on the surface: Surf to the crater, in the middle of Route 126, and dive into the dark water area. An underwater passage brings you back up in the middle of the city. Steven Stone and Wallace, the city’s Gym Leader, are waiting for you there.
🔴The Cave of Origin
In Ruby and Sapphire, Wallace lets you into the Cave of Origin. Descend to the very bottom: along the way, you will find HM07 Waterfall. At the bottom, Groudon (Ruby) or Kyogre (Sapphire) awaits you, at level 45. Save before talking to it: this is your chance to catch it. Once it is calmed, the weather returns to normal.
GroudonNo. 45GroundRuby. Groudon (Ground) knows Earthquake and Bulk Up, and its Drought ability boosts Fire. An Ultra Ball or Nest Balls after putting it to sleep will do the job.
KyogreNo. 45WaterSapphire. Kyogre (Water) knows Ice Beam and Calm Mind; its Drizzle ability brings on the rain. Put it to sleep and count on Nest Balls, which are very effective on Water Pokémon.
In Emerald, Groudon and Kyogre are fighting above Sootopolis City. Wallace, now the Champion, sends you to the Sky Pillar, a ruined tower east of Pacifidlog Town (Route 131), to awaken Rayquaza. Climb to the top: Rayquaza flies off to Sootopolis City and separates the two titans. Wallace then gives you HM07 Waterfall. You will be able to catch Rayquaza later, at the top of the Sky Pillar, as well as Groudon and Kyogre, after the League.
💧The Sootopolis Gym
The Gym floor is a rink of fragile ice: each cracked tile gives way if you step on it twice. To open the staircase on each floor, step on all the cracked tiles exactly once. Eight female Trainers (ten in Emerald) defend the place.

Water Pokémon fear Electric and Grass. But Whiscash (Water and Ground) is immune to Electric and only fears Grass, four times over. Milotic, at level 43, is the sturdiest: it heals itself with Recover and knows Ice Beam. Bring a good Electric attacker and a Grass Pokémon.

In Emerald, Juan replaces Wallace. His ace is Kingdra (Water and Dragon), which only fears Dragon: without a Dragon attack, hit it with your most powerful moves, keeping its Rest in mind.
