🏖️Route 104

To the south, the beach leads to Mr. Briney’s house. To the north, past Petalburg Woods, you will find the Pretty Petal Flower Shop: an employee gives you the Wailmer Pail for watering your berry plants, and a little boy in front of the shop gives you TM09 Bullet Seed. On the pier, two Twins throw down the very first Double Battle of the series: two Pokémon against two.

🌲Petalburg Woods

This small forest is the only place in Hoenn where Shroomish and Slakoth live. Midway along the path, a Devon Corporation researcher is looking for a Shroomish… when a Grunt attacks him to steal some documents. Step in: the Grunt’s level 9 Poochyena is no match for you. Grateful, the researcher gives you a Great Ball.

🏭Rustboro City

Rustboro is a modern city, dominated by the Devon Corporation tower. Take a tour before heading to the Gym:

  1. Cutter’s House: its owner gives you HM01 Cut. You will be able to use it outside of battle after earning the Stone Badge.
  2. Trainer School: the teacher gives you a Quick Claw, which sometimes lets you attack first.
  3. Devon Corporation employee building: a boy gives you a Premier Ball.

The Gym looks like a fossil museum. Two young trainers (three in Emerald) line up Geodude: a good warm-up.

Nosepass is the toughest: its Defense is huge and it holds an Oran Berry that heals it once. Bet on Special Water or Grass attacks. With Torchic, raise it to level 16: Combusken learns Double Kick, a super effective Fighting-type move. Watch out: the Sturdy ability keeps its Pokémon from being knocked out in one hit when they have full HP.
