I] Legendary Pokémon:
Kyogre or Groudon | About these Pokémon:
 | | Kyogre | Groudon | (Sapphire) | (Ruby) |
Let’s be clear: if you play Sapphire, you will only find Kyogre, and if you play Ruby you will only find Groudon. To get both, you have to trade…
To find them, you need to go to the cave in Sootopolis City… But the walkthrough explains that better than I can here. The method is fully explained in the walkthrough. => Click here to see it
Keep in mind that they are level 45 in the game. | Catching these Pokémon:
Once you have reached the Pokémon, Groudon in Ruby and Kyogre in Sapphire, you must catch it with the Master Ball you obtained earlier in Team Aqua’s hideout, because these Pokémon are unique and essential to the proper progress of the story… For more details, check out the FAQ! These Pokémon are extremely powerful, so handle them with care! |
Rayquaza | About this Pokémon:
 | Rayquaza |
This Pokémon is, you could say, the equivalent of Mewtwo in the Blue/Red versions.
It is the most powerful in the game in terms of stats, and probably one of the hardest to reach and catch! | Catching this Pokémon:
To reach it, you need to have beaten the Pokémon League once, then head to Pacifidlog Town, the only "useless" town in the game’s storyline.
Next, you absolutely must equip your Mach Bike, and only that one!
Go east (right), then north of Pacifidlog Town, then take a small path. => Click here to see the map of the route!
You will then arrive in front of the impressive "Sky Pillar". Go in… be careful: there are powerful wild Pokémon every 5 steps! Use Max Repels if necessary.
After that, you will have to use your Acro Bike to cross the holes, but you need perfect timing and a lot of patience! If you have to redo the same route 10 or 20 times, that’s normal: With a bit of practice you can manage to cross them… No map can help you there, it has to come from you! => Map of the first bike puzzle => Map of the second bike puzzle | Legend:The white dots mark the pauses you need to make (I recommend saving), the red lines mark the sections where you need to turn at full speed, and the red dot with the STOP! is where you need to stop; whatever you do, don’t go all the way to the last hole! |
At the very top, you will find Rayquaza… Careful, it is level 70! Try to catch it with an Ultra Ball using the good old method: Weaken it as much as you can, lower its stats, put it to sleep or paralyze it, then throw Ultra Balls until one works. |
Latios or Latias | About these Pokémon:
 | | Latias | Latios | (Sapphire) | (Ruby) |
As with Kyogre and Groudon, you will only find one of them in your version… Use a Link Cable to get your missing Pokémon! In Sapphire, you will find Latias, and in Ruby, you will find Latios! You will find them roaming anywhere in Hoenn, after beating the Elite Four… Now, after reading my FAQ, you will have learned that there is an Eon Ticket that lets you travel to a Southern Island. To get this ticket, use the Action Replay or wait for an event organized by Nintendo to give it to you! | Catching these Pokémon:
To catch them:
Weaken them as much as possible, put them to sleep, then pelt them with the best Poké Balls in your bag (Ultra Balls, for example). These Pokémon are also extremely powerful, so handle them with care! |
The new Legendary Trio: Regirock, Regice and Registeel | About these Pokémon:
 | | | Regirock | Regice | Registeel |
In these two new versions, you can find 3 special Pokémon: (the equivalent of Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres in the Blue/Red/Yellow versions and of Entei, Suicune and Raikou in the Gold/Silver/Crystal versions).
#193: Regirock, a Rock golem #194: Regice, an Ice golem #195: Registeel, a Steel golem
Apart from Registeel, you will have a hard time catching the other two, so always keep a Timer Ball on hand and make patience the best of all your tools! | Catching these Pokémon:
Catching these 3 Pokémon is no small feat… – With a bit of luck, you can fish up Wailmer north of Dewford Town, then raise it to level 40 to get Wailord! – As for Relicanth, you can find it underwater around Sootopolis City, again with a bit of luck. Once you have these Pokémon, you need to put Relicanth in first place and Wailord in last place.
=> Then, bring Pokémon that know or hold TM28 (Dig), HM Strength (04), HM Surf (03) and HM Waterfall (08). => Now, head to Pacifidlog Town (southwest of Sootopolis City), then surf west. You will come across a hole lost in the middle of the currents, which you can see in this image.
=> Dive down, then go to the inscriptions on the wall, and resurface… You will end up in a cave with Braille inscriptions everywhere. Go all the way to the top, then use "Dig" on the inscriptions. Enter through the passage, then go all the way up to read them. => After a small tremor, leave, then head north of Mauville City, where you will find a spot in the desert like the one in this image.
=> Go in, read the inscriptions, then take 2 steps right and 2 steps down, then use Strength. The first legendary Pokémon will appear: Regirock!
Catch it using the basic technique: weaken it, then pelt it with Ultra Balls.
For the second one, Regice, head to an island northwest of Dewford Town. You will find it surrounded by rocks, like in the sandy area. Read the inscriptions, and stay where you are for a few minutes (with the inscriptions screen displayed) so that the opening reveals itself after a minute or two. For the 3rd Pokémon, head to Route 120, to the rainy area. Read the inscriptions, then go down 4 steps and use "Fly". Now the 3rd and last Pokémon of the legendary trio is yours! |
About Jirachi and Deoxys | About these Pokémon:
 | | Jirachi | Deoxys |
People talk about them a lot, but you should know that these 2 Pokémon, Jirachi (#201) and Deoxys (#202), cannot be found in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire for now.
Japanese players were able to get Jirachi on the occasion of the release of Pokémon 6 over there. At the Ruby/Sapphire Championship in France around March 2004, perhaps we will be lucky enough to get one of these rare Pokémon!
The same goes for Deoxys, which Japanese players have not been able to get so far |
II] Rare/special Pokémon:
Azurill and Wynaut | To get Wynaut, there is a simple and quick solution: Go to Lavaridge Town, then talk to the old lady near the pool with the old ladies! She will give you an Egg which, after several thousand steps, will hatch into a Wynaut!
 | | Azurill | Wynaut |
|
If you want more Wynaut, you need to catch 2 Wobbuffet (you can find them in the Safari Zone), one male and one female, then have the male Wobbuffet hold the "Lax Incense", which you can find in the graveyard of Mt. Pyre. You can also get one on Mirage Island, which is very hard to reach! Once you have done that, take the 2 Wobbuffet to the Day Care, then come back often to see if you have gotten an Egg! As for Azurill, you need to do the same thing with 2 Marill (male and female), except that you need to give the "Sea Incense" to the male Marill. |
Wurmple and its evolutions | Many people have asked me how to tell, when you catch a Wurmple, whether it will evolve into Silcoon or Cascoon.
All you have to do is raise your Wurmple to level 7. After that, its evolution is more or less random.
It is determined by a secret value between 0 and 4294967296 (2^32), unique to all the Pokémon you catch.
If the units digit of this value is between 0 and 4 (inclusive), then the Wurmple will evolve into Silcoon. Otherwise (values between 5 and 9 inclusive), it will evolve into Cascoon. |
Beldum, the mechanical Pokémon | Like Eevee in the past, Beldum is very easy to get, but only as a single one!
 | Beldum |
After beating the Pokémon League once, go to Mossdeep City, then to Steven’s house, at the very top right. Make sure you have a free slot in your party, then take the Poké Ball. You are now the owner of Beldum!
All that’s left is to evolve it (Metang at level 20; Metagross at level 45). |
Feebas, the hardest one to find! | Let’s say it right away: you will almost certainly have an enormous amount of trouble finding Feebas … It is the Pokémon with the lowest encounter rate in the game!
 | | Feebas | Milotic |
To be precise … a 1.5% chance!
To encounter it, you first need to have the Super Rod, go to Route 119, and fish, fish, and fish some more! On this route, there are 6 tiles out of 400 that contain this Pokémon, and it is recommended to fish 5 times per tile to find it.
The tiles can change places if you go to Dewford Town and change the town’s phrase. |
Bagon, the well-hidden Pokémon! | Many of you still don’t know how to catch Bagon. I’ll try to be clear: Once you have beaten Sootopolis City’s Gym Leader Wallace, head to Meteor Falls. Inside the cave, you will probably find yourself face to face with a pool of water. Surf and use HM08 Waterfall to climb the waterfall. To reach the room where Bagon is, here are a few maps that may help you: Go all the way to the end, onto dry land, take TM02 (Dragon Claw) and look around! |
The Fossil Pokémon | Go to Route 111, to the area where a sandstorm is raging. Go to the very top right of this desert, and you will find 2 Fossils: – The Root Fossil, which will let you get Lileep (#133), a Rock/Grass type – The Claw Fossil, which will let you get Anorith (#135), a Rock/Bug type. | | Lileep | Cradily |
| | | Anorith | Armaldo |
|
Choose whichever suits you. (Lileep is an excellent Pokémon, since its 2 types complement each other very well). The other one then disappears … Next, go to Rustboro City, to the Devon Corporation where you got your PokéNav, then talk to the scientist at the bottom right of the first floor.
Leave a free slot, then go for a walk around the game… When you come back, the man will thank you for your patience and give you the revived Fossil. It will be level 20! |
Castform, the multi-form Pokémon | This Pokémon is extremely useful: It changes type at any moment! It can be Fire type (if it’s hot/Sunny Day), Water type (if it’s raining/Rain Dance), Ice type (if it’s snowing/Hail) or Normal type … |
The Mystic Dragons / What the wreck is for | First, you must beat Team Aqua/Magma, then catch a Clamperl (#176) underwater, around Sootopolis City. | | | Clamperl | Huntail | Gorebyss |
Many of you asked me what the wreck on Route 108 was for. Go there with Surf, then enter a room where there is water … Use Surf, then Dive (HM08), and go all the way to the end.
You arrive in a room full of shiny objects … they are keys. You need the one for room 2, where you will find the "SCANNER". Take it to Captain Stern’s assistant in the most remote room of the wreck.
Then, go to the port of Slateport City and talk to Captain Stern. He will ask for your Scanner in exchange for 1 item:
– DeepSeaTooth: It will let your Clamperl (#176) evolve into Huntail (#177) during a Link trade if it is held by Clamperl.
– DeepSeaScale: It will let your Clamperl (#176) evolve into Gorebyss (#178) during a Link trade if it is held by Clamperl.

III- Pokémon to trade for:
Pokémon you can trade for in the game cartridge | As in previous versions, there are a few Pokémon you can get by trading within the cartridge itself!
Here is the list of places where you can trade Pokémon: -> In Fortree City, in one of the houses perched in the north, a lady will trade you her Skitty for a Pikachu (you can find them in the Safari Zone). You will receive a Mail, which you must remove if you want to store Skitty in the PC. -> In Pacifidlog Town, in one of the houses you will find a lady who will trade you her Corsola for a Bellossom (you can find Oddish and Gloom in the Safari Zone, to evolve them into Bellossom! (Reminder: Gloom + Sun Stone = Bellossom). You will receive a Mail, which you must remove if you want to store Corsola in the PC. -> In Rustboro City, in the house to the right of the Gym, a little girl will want to trade you her Makuhita for a Slakoth (you can find them in Petalburg Woods). Since she’s a little girl who can’t write … no Mail! |
Pokémon to trade via Link between the 2 versions | Here is the list of Pokémon exclusive to each version of the game:
I want to stress that linking between the Blue, Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal versions is completely IMPOSSIBLE. |
Pokémon that need a trade to evolve | All you need is to have their final evolution and trade them for them to evolve: | | | Kadabra (#40) | => | Alakazam (#41) | | | | Graveler (#58) | => | Golem (#59) | | | | Machoke (#74) | => | Machamp (#75) | A Link trade requires two GBAs, two copies of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and a cable designed for that purpose |
