North of Mauville stretches the wildest part of Hoenn: a desert swept by sandstorms, routes covered in volcanic ash and, at the center, Mt. Chimney. The enemy team is preparing a terrible stunt there with a stolen meteorite.

🌼Route 117 and Verdanturf Town
West of Mauville, flowery Route 117 is home to the Pokémon Day Care: leave two compatible Pokémon there, and the old man will one day hand you an Egg. At the end of the route, Verdanturf Town is the village where Wally now lives. Use Rock Smash at the east entrance of Rusturf Tunnel: by clearing the way, you reunite Wanda and her boyfriend, who gives you HM04 Strength.
In Ruby and Sapphire, Verdanturf is home to the Normal Rank Contest Hall: the receptionist gives you the Contest Pass, which opens the doors to every Contest in Hoenn. In Emerald, a Battle Tent takes its place.

🏜️Route 111 and its desert
North of Mauville, Route 111 crosses a desert where a sandstorm keeps you from advancing. You will need the Go-Goggles, which you get after the Lavaridge Gym. In the meantime, two stops are in order:
- The Winstrate family’s house: take on the whole family in four battles in a row without healing to win a Macho Brace.
- The man near the big tree: he gives you TM43 Secret Power. Used on certain trees, bushes or rock walls, it opens the entrance to a Secret Base that you can decorate.

🌋Route 113, Fallarbor Town and Meteor Falls
Route 113 is covered in volcanic ash. Go into the Glass Workshop: its owner entrusts you with a Soot Sack. Walk through the ashy grass to fill it: he will then trade the ash for flutes and decorations. It is also the only place in Hoenn where Spinda lives.
In Fallarbor Town, the assistant of Prof. Cozmo, a meteorite specialist, is worried: his boss went off to Meteor Falls with some strange people. Follow Route 114 (the only place in the region where Zangoose and Seviper live) to Meteor Falls. The enemy team steals the Professor’s meteorite there before heading off to Mt. Chimney. Meteor Falls hides many other things, but you will need Surf and Waterfall to reach them.

Return to the cable car on Route 112: the way is clear. At the summit of Mt. Chimney, the two Teams clash. The enemy team has placed the meteorite in a machine to act on the volcano: in Ruby and Emerald, Team Magma wants to awaken it to expand the land; in Sapphire, Team Aqua wants to put it to sleep. Defeat the Admin and the Grunts, then the Team leader.

Once the leader is beaten, take the Meteorite from the machine. Bring it back to Prof. Cozmo in Fallarbor Town: he gives you TM27 Return. To continue, go down Jagged Pass, south of the summit, to Lavaridge Town.
