Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald Walkthrough: Lavaridge, Flannery

At the foot of Mt. Chimney, Lavaridge Town is a spa town famous throughout Hoenn. Its hot springs heal tired Pokémon… and its Gym is the hottest in the region.

Objective: Defeat Flannery and earn the Heat Badge
Gym type: Fire
Gifts: an Egg (Wynaut), the Charcoal, the Go-Goggles
Reward: TM50 Overheat and ₽2,800

♨️The hot springs

In Lavaridge, an old lady near the springs entrusts you with an Egg: it will hatch into a Wynaut, a Psychic-type Pokémon that is unique in the region at this stage. In the Herb Shop, a customer gives you a Charcoal, which boosts Fire-type moves. Search the hot spring pool: an Ice Heal is hidden there.

WynautPsychic

🔥Lavaridge Gym

The Gym is a sauna: geysers of hot water launch you from one platform to another. Five trainers (eight in Emerald), mostly Kindlers with Numel and Slugma, guard the Gym Leader.

MarshtompWaterGround

WingullWaterFlying

MarillWater

Our strategy

The big danger is Overheat, the most powerful Fire-type move in the game at this stage: Torkoal can sweep away a non-resistant Pokémon in a single hit. Fortunately, Overheat sharply lowers the user’s Special Attack: survive the first hit and Torkoal becomes almost harmless. Avoid Sunny Day, which strengthens Fire: a Water-type Pokémon wins out regardless. Torkoal holds a Sitrus Berry.
