Mr. Briney sets sail for Slateport City, the big port city in the south. You have to deliver the Devon Goods to Captain Stern there… but the enemy team is already on the scene. Farther north, Route 110 and its cycling road lead to Mauville City, the city of electricity.

🏖️The Route 109 beach and Slateport City

The boat drops you off on the big beach south of Slateport, filled with swimmers and sailors on vacation. In the Seashore House, defeat all the trainers to receive Soda Pop. In town, take a look around: Captain Stern’s Shipyard, the big open-air Market, the Pokémon Fan Club (a Soothe Bell is waiting for you there) and, in Ruby and Sapphire, the Contest Hall, where a girl gives you the Pokéblock Case.

🐋The Oceanic Museum

Captain Stern is at the Oceanic Museum, east of town (admission fee). Upstairs, two Grunts from the enemy team are trying to steal his research: defeat them. Their leader makes a brief appearance and warns you, before slipping away. You can finally hand the Devon Goods over to the Captain. On the ground floor, a Grunt even gives you TM46 Thief.

🚴Route 110 and your rival

Route 110 heads north from Slateport, on two levels: below, a country path full of trainers; above, the Cycling Road, reserved for bikes. To the north, your rival is waiting for you with three Pokémon. Defeat them: they give you an Itemfinder, which signals hidden items.

Our strategy

Their starter has evolved (level 20): a Pokémon with the type advantage over it makes all the difference. Their other two Pokémon (Wailmer, Shroomish, Numel…) are weaker: take them out quickly.

🎡Mauville City

Mauville is a covered city, built around a big shopping mall. When you arrive, Wally challenges you: his Ralts has grown a lot. After that, two visits are in order:

  1. Rydel’s Cycles: the owner gives you your choice of bike. The Mach Bike, very fast, can climb sandy slopes; the Acro Bike can hop and cross rails. You can swap it at any time.
  2. House to the southeast: a man gives you HM06 Rock Smash, which breaks cracked rocks.
  3. House next to the Mart: a woman gives you the Coin Case for the Game Corner in exchange for a Harbor Mail, sold at the Slateport Poké Mart.

An easy battle: Ralts has only one offensive move, Confusion. A Bug-type or Ghost-type move finishes it off quickly.

⚡Mauville Gym

The Gym is a maze of electric barriers, opened and closed by switches on the floor. Each switch flips the state of the barriers: advance step by step and backtrack if needed.

  • MarshtompWaterGround

Marshtomp is Water and Ground: completely immune to Electric. The easiest fight.

  • NincadaBugGround

Nincada (Route 116) is Bug and Ground: also immune to Electric.

  • GeodudeRockGround

Geodude (Granite Cave) resists Electric attacks and hits hard.

  • WailmerWater

No Ground-type Pokémon? At the very least, avoid bringing your Water and Flying Pokémon.

    Ability: Magnet Pull

Our strategy

Beware of Voltorb: it knows Self-Destruct and can knock out your Pokémon by sacrificing itself. Magnemite and Magneton have the Magnet Pull ability, which keeps Steel-type Pokémon from escaping. A Ground-type Pokémon (Marshtomp, Nincada) settles the battle without taking a single point of electric damage.

Emerald

In Emerald, Wattson fields four Pokémon, including a level 24 Manectric.
