With seven badges in your pocket, you’re only one short. Viridian City Gym, closed since the start of your adventure, has finally reopened its doors. Its Gym Leader is none other than… Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket.

🌀The Gym of arrow tiles
Fly to Viridian City. The Gym is a maze of arrow tiles, like the ones in the Rocket Hideout: each tile makes you slide in a given direction. Eight Trainers (Tamers, Black Belts and Cooltrainers) await you with Ground- and Fighting-type Pokémon. Spot the fixed patches of floor so you can stop and adjust your path.

Ground-type Pokémon fear Water, Grass and Ice: a Lapras or a Blastoise with Surf and Ice Beam sweeps the whole team. Avoid sending out Electric-, Fire-, Poison- or Rock-type Pokémon. Beware of Rhydon: it knows Fissure, a move that knocks out in one hit if it connects (it fails against a faster Pokémon).
In Yellow, Giovanni’s team is much stronger: Dugtrio (Lv. 50), Persian (Lv. 53), Nidoqueen (Lv. 53), Nidoking (Lv. 55) and Rhydon (Lv. 55), with Earthquake and Thunder.
