With the S.S. Ticket in your pocket, it’s time to head south across Kanto. But in Cerulean City, the policeman who was guarding the burgled house has left his post: it’s the perfect moment to pay the Team Rocket thief a little visit.

🕵️The TM28 thief
Enter the burgled house, in the northeast of Cerulean City: the back wall has been smashed in. Walk through it to reach the yard, where a Team Rocket Grunt awaits you with a Machop and a Drowzee. Beat him: he gives back the stolen item, TM28 Dig. The owner of the house lets you keep it as thanks.
The passage opened by the thieves leads to the south of the city. Take it to reach Route 5.
🏡Route 5 and the Pokémon Day Care
On Route 5, a small house is home to the Pokémon Day Care. You can leave a Pokémon there: it will gain a level for a set number of steps you take, without battling. You will have to pay when you pick it up (₽100 plus ₽100 per level gained). It’s a good trick to level up a Pokémon that is falling behind.
The gate to Saffron City, at the end of the road, is guarded by a guard who is far too thirsty to let you through. No point insisting: take the Underground Path, the small house to the southeast, which connects Route 5 to Route 6.

🚇The Underground Path and Route 6
The Underground Path is a long corridor with no wild Pokémon. At the exit, Route 6 zigzags down toward Vermilion City: six trainers are training there, Bug Catchers and Jr. Trainers♂, one of whom even has a Squirtle. Meowth (Blue) and Mankey (Red) appear in the tall grass.

In Yellow, Routes 5 and 6 look different: you’ll meet Pidgeotto, Rattata, Jigglypuff and even Abra. Psyduck and Golduck swim in the pond on Route 6.
