Alakazam is the most dangerous: target it first with a powerful physical attack. Rhyhorn fears Water and Grass, Gyarados fears Electric. His starter, at level 53, deserves your best Pokémon: one that has the type advantage over it.
🎖️Route 23 and the badge checks
After the Route 22 gatehouse, Route 23 heads north. Guards check your badges one by one: show them and walk through the barriers. The route alternates between dry land and water: you’ll need to surf several times.

🪨Victory Road
Victory Road is a three-level cave full of high-level Trainers (Cooltrainers, Black Belts, Jugglers…) and big boulders. To open the passages, push the boulders with Strength onto the switches in the floor: a barrier lowers each time. Take the time to battle everyone: your Pokémon will gain precious levels before the League.
🔥Moltres
MoltresFireFlyingFire and Flying, level 50. It is on 2F, near a boulder. It is the easiest of the three legendary birds to catch.
Save before approaching it. A Water- or Rock-type Pokémon weakens it safely, then throw Ultra Balls (not the Master Ball). Moltres knows Fire Spin, which traps and burns your Pokémon for several turns.
In Yellow, Moltres is also on Victory Road. The three legendary birds are in the same places as in Red and Blue.
