Mesagoza, the Capital of Paldea

Mesagoza is the biggest city in the region, built south of the Great Crater of Paldea. Its architecture evokes Madrid and Toledo, and the Academy, at the top of the city, recalls the Sagrada Família in Barcelona. You will find plenty of shops (clothes, bags, items, restaurants), Pokémon Centers at its gates, and it is the natural starting point for all your expeditions.

When you arrive, after helping Penny against Team Star, Nemona gives you the Tera Orb. It lets you Terastallize one Pokémon once per battle; it recharges at a Pokémon Center or by touching the Tera crystals found out in the wild.

The Academy: Who’s Who?

Once enrolled, you join Class 1-A, Nemona’s class, whose homeroom teacher is Jacq, the biology teacher. The Academy’s chairperson is none other than Geeta, the Pokémon League’s Top Champion, who is rarely there.

Should You Attend Classes?

You can attend classes from the reception desk in the entrance hall. They are optional, but we recommend taking a few:

  • they clearly explain the mechanics (types, stats, catching);
  • the mid-term and end-of-term exams earn you useful items;
  • they raise your affinity with the teachers, which unlocks extra scenes and rewards.

Useful Places in the Academy

  • The cafeteria: this is where Arven tells you about Herba Mystica. You can buy Level 1 Power sandwiches there.
  • The school store: healing items and Poké Balls, with a selection that grows as you earn Badges.
  • Your room: to rest and heal your team.
  • The hall library: you can consult the Scarlet / Violet Book there, which is at the heart of the story.

The Treasure Hunt

At the ceremony, Clavell announces the year’s extracurricular project: the Treasure Hunt. Every student must travel across Paldea to find their own “treasure.” Three quests open up to you, and they progress in parallel:

Your First Objective

Once the ceremony is over, the Treasure Hunt really begins. Two exits from Mesagoza lead to your first two objectives:

  • the west gate leads to Cortondo and Katy’s Gym (Bug), the first recommended Leader;
  • the east gate leads to South Province (Area Three) and the Stony Cliff Titan, which Arven pointed out to you.

Both are at an equivalent level (15-16): do both before going any further.

Academy pop quiz

What is the Academy called, depending on your version?

Naranja Academy (Scarlet) or Uva Academy (Violet).

How do you recharge the Tera Orb?

At a Pokémon Center or by touching a Tera crystal out in the wild. Only one use per battle.

Do opponents scale to your level?

No: levels are fixed. Hence the value of a recommended order.
