The first recommended Gym on the Victory Road path, Cortondo is a Mediterranean village of olive groves just west of Mesagoza. Its Gym Leader, Katy, is also the town’s star pastry chef: her shop faces the Gym. She has been told to “go easy” on new students… which makes her the best first challenge in the game.

Getting to Cortondo
Leave Mesagoza through the west gate and cross South Province (Area Two). Cortondo sits in the heart of this area, among the olive trees. Along the way you’ll meet Nacli, Starly and Fletchling, three ideal recruits for this battle. Touch the town’s Pokémon Center to unlock fast travel.
The test: Olive Roll
To earn your battle, you have to take on the Olive Roll challenge, a local custom meant to bring good harvests. It takes place in a stadium north of Cortondo, in South Province (Area Two).

- Talk to the Gym reception to start the test, then head to the stadium.
- Push the giant inflatable olive by running into it: it rolls in the direction you’re running. Use small nudges around the turns.
- Two Trainers guard the course. Defeating them is optional, but they then move their Smoliv to open shortcuts for you.
- Get the olive into the goal to pass the test.

Automatic calculation based on the team above: number of Pokémon hit super effectively (the Pokémon that Terastallizes is counted with its Tera type, immunity Abilities included).
Our strategy
- Nymble uses Struggle Bug, which lowers your Sp. Atk, and Double Kick, a Fighting-type move that is super effective against Normal- and Rock-type Pokémon. Be careful if you’re counting on Nacli.
- Tarountula holds an Oran Berry that restores its HP once. Nothing to worry about.
- Teddiursa is the real difficulty: it’s the one that Terastallizes. From Normal, it becomes pure Bug, and its Fury Cutter (a Bug-type move that gets stronger with each consecutive use) then benefits from the type bonus.
Fire, Flying and Rock types are super effective against the whole team. A Fletchinder (Fletchling’s evolution at Lv. 17) or your Fuecoco will work wonders.

Rewards
Katy gives you the Bug Badge, TM021 Pounce (a Bug-type move that lowers the target’s Speed) and one of her pastries. Later, once you’ve become Champion, Geeta will ask you to inspect the Gyms: Katy will then be waiting for you with a Lv. 65 team (see the post-game checklist).

What’s next? The Stony Cliff Titan awaits east of Mesagoza, followed by Brassius in Artazon: take on Klawf or challenge Brassius.
