What raids give you
With every victory, all players receive a set of items, more numerous and rarer with higher star ratings. Each Pokémon has its guaranteed rewards and random items. The most sought-after:
| Reward | What it’s for | Raids |
|---|---|---|
| Exp. Candies (XS to XL) | Instantly level up | All; XL in 5★ and 6★ |
| Tera Shards | Change a Pokémon’s Tera Type | All; more at higher difficulty |
| Herba Mystica | Sandwiches with level 3 Powers (including Sparkling Power) | 5★ and 6★ |
| Silver and Gold Bottle Caps | Hyper Training of IVs | High-level raids |
| Mints | Change a Nature’s effect | 5★ and 6★ |
| Ability Capsule, Ability Patch | Change Ability, or get the Hidden Ability | High-level raids |
| Rare Candies, vitamins, Nuggets | Levels, EVs, money | Varies |
Not to mention the Pokémon itself, a sure catch, often with a rare Tera Type. In 5★ and 6★ raids, it also has several perfect IVs.
Tera Shards
Tera Shards exist in all 18 types, plus Stellar. You can find them:
- in raid rewards, of the raid’s type;
- on the ground, as small shiny fragments;
- as a reward for the Academy Ace Tournament.
Their main use: changing a Pokémon’s Tera Type. After the Medali Gym, the chef at the Treasure Eatery prepares a dish in exchange for 50 Tera Shards of the same type, which gives that Tera Type to the Pokémon of your choice.
Playing online
Raids really come into their own with other players:
- to host a raid, touch a crystal and choose to start it online; you can protect it with a code to share with your friends;
- to join a raid, open the Poké Portal, “Tera Raid Battles” menu: enter a code or choose “Random”;
- online, you can catch Pokémon exclusive to the other version if the host offers any: an excellent way to complete the Pokédex;
- a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to play over the Internet.
Event raids and 7★ raids
Regularly, temporary events, received by updating the news in the Poké Portal, add special crystals to the map: rare Pokémon, guaranteed shinies, bonus rewards. The most anticipated are the 7★ raids, the hardest in the game, with starter or legendary Pokémon at level 100. A Pokémon caught in a 7★ raid bears the Mightiest Mark.
