The departure: a school trip

Once the Treasure Hunt has begun, Jacq tells you that you’re among the students picked by lottery for a school trip to Kitakami, organized with another school. At the Academy, he introduces you to Briar, a teacher at Blueberry Academy, a school in Unova. Passionate about the Scarlet / Violet Book, she is looking for a mysterious Pokémon: Terapagos.

Kitakami, land of legends

Kitakami is a peaceful land dominated by a great mountain, Oni Mountain, with its rice paddies, apple orchards and rivers. Its main village, Mossui Town, is getting ready to celebrate the Festival of Masks, in honor of the Loyal Three, three hero Pokémon who are said to have driven off a masked monster long ago.

Carmine and Kieran

In Mossui Town, you meet two Blueberry Academy students who come from the village: Carmine, strong-willed and wary of outsiders, and her younger brother Kieran, shy but curious and a big fan of the monster from the legend.

Carmine challenges you as soon as you arrive. Her Pokémon (Poochyena, Vulpix, Poltchageist) foreshadow those of the region.

The orienteering race

The trip’s program is an orienteering race in pairs: you have to take a photo in front of the three signs that tell the legend of the Loyal Three and the monster. You team up with Kieran, who first challenges you to check that you’re up to it.

  1. Loyalty Plaza: the monument to the three heroes. Kieran tells you the legend… and discovers, stunned, your Koraidon / Miraidon.
  2. The second sign is about the monster’s masks. Kieran then drags you to the Dreaded Den, the monster’s lair on Oni Mountain, and challenges you in the hope of luring it out.
  3. The last sign, in an isolated spot in the Paradise Barrens, where the monster is said to have been spotted. Another battle against Kieran.

The Festival of Masks

In the evening, at Carmine and Kieran’s home, their grandparents give you a jinbei, the festival’s traditional outfit. At the festival, in Kitakami Hall, you can enjoy the stalls and a mini-game: finish it to get the Exp. Charm, which increases the experience gained.

That’s where you catch sight of a mysterious masked Pokémon dancing to the music. Startled by Carmine, it runs away… and loses its teal mask on the stairs. Carmine asks you not to say anything to Kieran.

The truth behind the legend (click to reveal)

Carmine and Kieran’s grandfather reveals that the legend is false. The “monster” is Ogerpon, who came to Kitakami with its human companion. Shunned because of their appearance, they were helped by a mask maker — an ancestor of the family. But three jealous Pokémon, the Loyal Three, stole three of the masks. Ogerpon fought them to get them back, and the villagers, believing the Loyal Three had protected them, made them heroes. Ogerpon, meanwhile, has lived in seclusion on the mountain ever since.

Kieran, who heard everything, feels betrayed by his sister and by you. The sequel, with Crystal Pool, the return of the Loyal Three and Ogerpon: The Teal Mask: the Loyal Three and Ogerpon.
