Gimmighoul is a Ghost-type Pokémon that lives in a chest and collects coins. Its evolution, Gholdengo (Steel/Ghost), is one of the most powerful Pokémon in the game. The only way to get it: collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins.

The two forms of Gimmighoul

The Chest Form (to catch)

This is the form you can battle and catch. It hides inside chests:

  • in the ruins of Paldea;
  • at the top of most Watchtowers;
  • on some isolated islands.

Its level ranges from 5 to 60 depending on the location. Defeating a Chest Form Gimmighoul earns you 50 to 80 coins the first time. Catch one so you can evolve it later.

The Roaming Form (to greet)

This little Gimmighoul that wanders around with a coin on its back can be found pretty much everywhere: on rocks, signs and ruins. It can’t be caught in Scarlet and Violet, but if you interact with it, it gives you a few coins (usually 1 or 2, up to 200 with a lot of luck).

Earning 999 coins quickly

  1. Defeat Chest Form Gimmighoul: this is the most generous source. They sometimes respawn, occasionally with a lot more coins (up to 777).
  2. Climb the Watchtowers: almost all of them hide a chest at the top.
  3. Greet every Roaming Form Gimmighoul you come across: a few coins each time.

Evolving Gimmighoul

With 999 coins in your pocket, make your Gimmighoul (Chest Form) gain a level: it evolves into Gholdengo, and the coins are spent. You can do it again as many times as you like.

Gholdengo, a Steel/Ghost type, is immune to Normal, Fighting and Poison moves, and its Ability keeps it from being affected by opposing status moves. A great asset for the late game.
