A Shiny Pokémon, with its unusual colors, shows up about once every 4,096 encounters. Sun and Moon offer two very effective ways to beat those odds: SOS chains and the Masuda method, both boosted by the Shiny Charm.

Before you start, keep in mind that no method is guaranteed: it all comes down to probabilities. What changes is the average number of attempts you need. With a good method, a hunt takes a few hours instead of several dozen.

Every hunter’s first goal is the Shiny Charm: it triples your base odds and stacks with the other methods. You get it by completing the Alola Pokédex.
