Before Akala’s Grand Trial, a detour to the lab of the Professor’s wife, who studies mysterious rifts in the sky. Then a mining tunnel leads you to Konikoni City, the merchants’ town, in the south of the island.

🌌The Research Lab and the Ultra Wormholes

Go back to Heahea City, to the Interdimensional Research Lab, east of town. Lillie and Cosmog are waiting for you there. On the second floor, Professor Kukui introduces you to his wife, Professor Burnet. She is the one who found Lillie unconscious on a beach, a few months earlier.

Hau joins you for a presentation on what Burnet is studying: Ultra Wormholes, rifts in space from which strange creatures, the Ultra Beasts, sometimes emerge. Remember these words well: they will come back.

⛏️Diglett’s Tunnel

The entrance to Diglett’s Tunnel, south of Heahea City, is now open. Head left and climb the stairs: two Aether Foundation employees warn you about Team Skull, which is lurking in the tunnel. Near the exit, two Grunts block your way. Hau arrives as backup for a Double Battle against a Fomantis and a Salandit, at level 22. He then gives you a Max Ether.

🏮Route 9 and Konikoni City

At the tunnel’s exit, the short Route 9 runs along the sea to Konikoni City, a town of red lanterns built by merchants. It has several shops that would be a shame to miss.

  • The TM shop sells, among others, TM08 Bulk Up, TM09 Venoshock, TM32 Double Team, TM47 Low Sweep, TM65 Shadow Claw and TM82 Dragon Tail.
  • The young woman gazing at Pikachu, north of town, gives you the Pikanium Z, the Z-Crystal exclusive to Pikachu.
  • Barbara’s family restaurant serves dishes that earn Heart Scales, to relearn forgotten moves.
  • The Pokémon Center offers a trade: a Poliwhirl for a Zubat. It holds a Waterium Z.

Olivia’s jewelry store is the last shop on the left before the crossroads. A Probopass guards the store: it hands you a Max Potion and a letter from the Kahuna. Olivia has gone to the Ruins of Life, at the end of Memorial Hill: that is where the Grand Trial will take place.
