Paniola Town is a cowboy village in the middle of the prairies, at the foot of the volcano. Miltank and Tauros are raised here, Pokémon are looked after at the Nursery… and on the road beyond, you meet for the first time a dark-looking boy who has beaten Hau.

No sooner have you arrived in Paniola Town than Hau challenges you. His starter Pokémon has evolved; he gives you a Dire Hit after the battle.

Pikachu, at level 16, paralyzes and can slow you down. His starter Pokémon, evolved at level 17, remains at a disadvantage against yours, but it now hits harder.
In the house of Kiawe, the Fire-type Captain, a Magmar gives you a Quick Ball. The village’s pond already lets you fish, once you have a Rod.

North of the village lies Paniola Ranch. At the Pokémon Nursery, the Breeder at the counter gives you an Egg, and another gives you TM10 Hidden Power. Don’t miss the Amulet Coin, behind the red truck east of the Nursery: held by a Pokémon, it doubles the money earned in battle.
Mallow is waiting for you at the ranch. She registers Stoutland in your Ride Pager: Stoutland Search replaces the Dowsing Machine and sniffs out items hidden on the ground. It will help you during Mallow’s Trial.

On Route 5, Hau is waiting for you, looking downcast: he has just lost to a mysterious blond boy, Gladion. He claims to be a member of Team Skull, but he fights alone, and he challenges you right away.
