The Rotom Dex can read QR codes. Scanning Pokémon codes fills your Pokédex with information and earns points; with one hundred points, you can start an Island Scan, which makes a Pokémon from elsewhere appear.
📱The QR Scan
- It unlocks at the first Pokémon Center, at the same time as Festival Plaza.
- Each Pokémon QR code earns 10 points; some special codes earn 20.
- Scanning the code of an Alolan Pokémon shows in the Pokédex where to find it.
- The QR Scan works offline: it is still usable today.
📡The Island Scan
With 100 points, hold the R button (or long-press the touch screen) to start the Island Scan. A Pokémon absent from the Alola Pokédex appears on the island where you are, and you have one hour to find and catch it. The Pokémon depends on the island and the day of the week; it often knows a move it only learns through breeding. The scan fails at Aether Paradise, which is not one of the four islands.
