The seventh generation shook up competitive play: one Z-Move per battle, four guardian deities who impose their Terrain, Ultra Beasts with extreme stats and the disappearance of Mega Evolutions from the major championships. Here is what you need to know to build a solid team.
The official rules of the time were played in double battles at level 50 for championships, and in singles for ranked battles. The 3DS online service closed in April 2024, but the Battle Tree and local play still let you practice.
Three pillars structure the teams of this generation: Speed control (Trick Room, Tailwind), the Terrains imposed by the guardian deities, and the constant threat of a Z-Move, which the opponent must always anticipate.
