The first Trial of the Island Challenge: no gym, no Gym Leader, but a cave full of dens to search and, at the very back, a Totem Pokémon far bigger than its kin.

🕳️The three dens

Talk to Ilima at the entrance: he explains the rules. You must flush out three Pokémon hidden in the cave’s dens and defeat them, then reach the Totem’s Den. Poké Balls are forbidden during a Trial.

Inspect the den facing the entrance, then the one hidden behind a big rock. Cross the wooden bridge: the next dens are empty. On the way back, you run into the two Team Skull Grunts again, with the same Drowzee as in the Berry Fields. Offended, they block two dens: the last free one hides the third Pokémon, a bit tougher than the others.

Sun

In Pokémon Sun, the dens hide Yungoos, then a Gumshoos, at level 11.

Moon

In Pokémon Moon, the dens hide Alolan Rattata, then an Alolan Raticate, at level 11.

Don’t miss TM31 Brick Break, on the ledge near the entrance: it is the ideal weapon against the Totem Pokémon.

👑The Totem Pokémon

The Trial Guide opens the Den for you. Examine the pedestal at the back: the Totem Pokémon appears, surrounded by an aura that raises its Defense. It can call a kin as backup: take it down fast to avoid fighting two against one.

💎Normalium Z and the Z-Move

The defeated Totem Pokémon runs away. On the pedestal gleams the Normalium Z, the Normal-type Z-Crystal. Ilima gives you ten Great Balls, and Professor Kukui comes to show you how the Z-Ring works: a Pokémon holding Normalium Z can turn a Normal-type move into Breakneck Blitz, once per battle.

The Den still hides TM46 Thief, at the end of the path behind the rocks. Ilima then opens the road east, and Kukui asks you to find Lillie, who went off alone on Route 3.
