In 2012, in a first for the main series, Game Freak released a direct sequel instead of a third version: Black 2 and White 2. The story takes place in Unova two years after Black and White, with a new hero, a transformed region and a Team Plasma that has split in two.

⏳Unova, two years later

  • Iris has become Champion and succeeded Alder, who has retired. Drayden now runs the Opelucid Gym alone.
  • Cheren has become a Gym Leader, specializing in the Normal type, and a teacher.
  • Bianca is Professor Juniper’s assistant: she is the one who hands the new hero their starter Pokémon.
  • The three brothers of Striaton City have left their posts and turned their Gym into a restaurant; Brycen has left his for his acting career.
  • A new part of the region, in the south-west, opens up for exploration, while other places from Black and White can only be reached after the League.

❄️The new Team Plasma and Kyurem

Team Plasma has split. One part, faithful to N’s philosophy, takes care of abandoned Pokémon in its old base in Driftveil City. The other, the new Team Plasma, follows Ghetsis and his scientist Colress, and wants to seize Unova with the help of Kyurem. Deep inside Giant Chasm, Ghetsis fuses Kyurem with N’s dragon: Black Kyurem is born in Black 2, and White Kyurem in White 2.

N himself returns, and after the story, his ruined castle can be visited.

✨What’s new

  • The Pokémon World Tournament, in Driftveil City, where you can face the Champions of every region;
  • the Memory Link, which connects to your Black and White save to relive memories and face your old rivals with their final teams;
  • Hidden Grottoes, clearings where you meet Pokémon with their Hidden Ability;
  • the Medal Secretariat, which rewards your achievements;
  • Challenge Mode and Easy Mode, which change the difficulty;
  • the Black Tower and White Treehollow, two post-game challenges.
