Legendary and Mythical Pokémon

Unova has thirteen legendary and mythical Pokémon. Three dragons at the heart of the region’s mythology, a trio of heroes inspired by the Three Musketeers, three genies of the sky and the earth, and four mythical Pokémon reserved for events. Here is where and how to get them in Black and in White.

☯️Reshiram and Zekrom, Truth and Ideals

Each version has you catch the dragon on its box art: Reshiram in Black, Zekrom in White. At the end of the story, in N’s Castle, your stone awakens and the dragon appears at level 50. Catching it is mandatory: if you knock it out, the battle starts over. If your party and PC boxes are all full at that moment, it will wait for you on the sixth floor of Dragonspiral Tower after the story. The other dragon, N’s, can only be obtained by trade.

❄️Kyurem, the Boundary Pokémon

Unova’s third dragon waits deep in Giant Chasm, at level 75, in both versions. Reach the pool of water at the center of the crater forest: snow starts to fall and opens the way to the north cave. Its catch rate is very low: bring Dusk Balls, which work well in caves, and a Pokémon that knows False Swipe. Details in step 31.

The three legendary heroes all have the Ability Justified, which raises their Attack when hit by a Dark-type move. Meet Cobalion first: that is what opens Virizion’s Rumination Field. All three are at level 42, in both versions, and are obtained after the Pokémon League.

🌪️Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus

Once you have the eighth Badge in hand, go back to Route 7: in front of the little house before Twist Mountain, a genie appears, then flies off and starts to roam across Unova. Tornadus in Black, Thundurus in White. Like any roaming Pokémon, it flees on the first turn: the Master Ball received in Opelucid City is made for it. Failing that, use a move that prevents fleeing, or put it to sleep before throwing your Balls.

Legend has it that Tornadus and Thundurus ravaged the fields of Unova until Landorus came to calm them. To meet it, go to the Abundant Shrine, accessible from Route 14, with Tornadus and Thundurus in your party. One of the two therefore necessarily comes from a trade with the other version. Landorus then appears at level 70.

• Victini waited in the Lighthouse in Liberty Garden, at level 15. It could only be reached with the Liberty Pass, an item distributed at an event: a boat from the Castelia City harbor took you there.
• Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect were only obtained through official distributions. Keldeo can learn its signature move, Secret Sword, if it goes to the Moor of Icirrus accompanied by the Swords of Justice.
