👟Route 2

As you leave Accumula Town, your mom catches up with you to give you the Running Shoes: hold the B button to run. Three young Trainers are waiting along the way, and Purrloin joins Patrat and Lillipup in the tall grass. The path on the right, made of ledges, can only be descended one way: go through the grass so you don’t miss anything.

In the middle of the route, Bianca challenges you to a duel. She has caught a Lillipup.

Our strategy

Her Lillipup knows Leer and Odor Sleuth, but doesn’t hit hard. Her starter Pokémon, at a disadvantage against yours, goes down fast if you use your type’s move.

🏫Striaton City and the Trainers’ School

The Striaton Gym is still closed. Cheren is waiting for you at the Trainers’ School, where a blackboard lists the five status conditions. Answer a student’s quiz to win a Full Heal, then accept Cheren’s challenge.

Our strategy

His starter Pokémon holds an Oran Berry and now knows a move of its type that gives it the advantage. Start by knocking out his Purrloin with your sturdiest Pokémon, then keep a Potion for the end. A well-trained Lillipup or Patrat can make the difference.

Once beaten, Cheren gives you 3 Oran Berries and the Gym opens its doors to you. Before going in, don’t miss the items in town: a Great Ball in the house next to the lab, a Dusk Ball given by a Punk Guy in the alley behind that same lab, and an X Speed behind the fence to the south.

🐒The essential detour: the Dreamyard

Before challenging the Gym, go east of town, to the entrance of the Dreamyard. A girl gives you a level 10 Pokémon, chosen to help you against the Gym Leader you’re about to face:

The rest of the Dreamyard isn’t accessible yet: you need the HM Cut. Next step: the Striaton Gym.
