The Pokémon Dream World was one of the big promises of Black and White: an online world, reachable from a web browser, where your sleeping Pokémon dreamed, made friends and came back with items and Pokémon you couldn’t find in Unova. It closed in 2014, but it left a lasting mark on the generation.
🌙How it worked
- After the Dreamyard mission, Fennel activates the Game Sync on your C-Gear.
- You put a Pokémon to sleep: it went off to the Pokémon Global Link website, where you had created an account tied to your cartridge.
- Guided by Fennel on your first visit, you then explored the Dream World with that Pokémon, for one hour a day.
- Back in the game, the items you had won were waiting for you at the entrance of the Entralink, and the Pokémon that had become your friends were waiting in the Entree Forest, ready to be caught with Dream Balls.
☁️The world of dreams
The Dream World was made of floating islands linked by rainbows:
- Your personal island, with a house to furnish from a catalog priced in Berries, and a doormat that kept the footprints of visiting Pokémon;
- the Berry garden, where you planted and harvested Berries: in the fifth generation, it was the only place to grow them;
- the dream island, where you met Pokémon, found items and played mini-games.
✨Why it mattered
Pokémon met in the Dream World often arrived with their Hidden Ability, a third ability you couldn’t get any other way in Black and White. Several of these abilities changed competitive play. Our guide Hidden Abilities explains it all.
Today, Game Sync no longer works, and the Entree Forest stays empty. The Pokémon received back then can still travel to Pokémon HOME, though: see Playing today.
