West of Nimbasa City, Route 5 is a short forest route enlivened by street performers. Cheren is waiting for you there, but the real surprise is elsewhere: a man with a mop of unruly red hair, none other than Alder, the Champion of the Unova Pokémon League.

Liepard is fast but fragile: one well-placed Fighting or Bug hit is enough. Tranquill fears Electric, Ice and Rock. Save your monkey or the Pokémon with the type advantage for his starter: the Sitrus Berry restores its HP once it is under half.
🧣Meeting Alder
Elesa arrives and leads you to a laid-back looking man: Alder, the Champion. He discusses with Cheren what a Trainer should look for: not just strength. Then he proposes a double battle alongside Cheren against his grandchildren, each with a Level 26 Herdier.
After the battle, Elesa calls the keeper of the Driftveil Drawbridge, a bascule bridge, to lower it.
🌿The Pokémon of Route 5
The tall grass changes depending on the version:
In Black, Gothita, a small Psychic type that will become Gothorita and then Gothitelle, a solid special attacker.
In White, Solosis, a Psychic cell that will become Duosion and then Reuniclus, very resilient thanks to the Magic Guard ability.
Both versions share Minccino, which evolves into Cinccino with a Shiny Stone, Trubbish and Liepard. In the rustling grass, you might come across Emolga.

🌉The Driftveil Drawbridge
This big red bridge is nicknamed the “Charizard Bridge” for its beauty. Shadows sometimes pass over the deck: they are Flying Pokémon. Walk into them to meet Ducklett, a Water and Flying duck that evolves into Swanna at Level 35. They also sometimes hide Feathers.
