The 156 New Pokémon

With 156 new species, Generation V is the biggest of the entire series. To let every player rediscover Pokémon, Game Freak made a radical choice: until the end of the story, you only meet these new Pokémon. Here is a tour of the families worth knowing.

The Unova Pokédex is numbered from 000 to 155: Victini takes spot 000, a first for the series. None of these Pokémon is an evolution or pre-evolution of an older Pokémon. Find them all in the interactive Unova Pokédex.

🎨A very wide range of inspirations

Generation V draws on everyday objects and unexpected ideas: an ice cream cone (Vanillite, Vanillish and Vanilluxe), a chandelier (Chandelure), a trash bag (Trubbish), gears (Klink, Klang, Klinklang), a sarcophagus (Cofagrigus), cells (Solosis), a flatfish (Stunfisk) or even a deer that changes its coat with the seasons (Deerling and Sawsbuck). These choices divided players at the time, but many of these Pokémon have since become cult favorites.
