The Unova League breaks with tradition: the four Elite Four members wait for you in four towers arranged around a large statue, and you face them in whatever order you like. Once all four are beaten, the statue opens onto the Champion’s path.
- Objective
- Defeat the four Elite Four members
- Opponents
- Shauntal (Ghost), Grimsley (Dark), Caitlin (Psychic), Marshal (Fighting)
- Recommended level
- 50 to 52
🏛️Before you enter
The entrance building houses a Pokémon Center. Stock up on Hyper Potions, Full Restores and Revives before heading up: you’ll be chaining battles, and each Elite Four member has four Pokémon around level 48 to 50. Our guide The Elite Four and Alder details each team and suggests the best counters.

All of her Pokémon fear Dark and Ghost attacks. A Krookodile, a Bisharp or a Mandibuzz with Crunch or Night Slash cleans house. Watch out: all of them are immune to Normal and Fighting attacks, and Chandelure (level 50) hits very hard with Fire Blast and Shadow Ball.
🐺Grimsley, the Dark specialist

Fighting and Bug attacks are your best weapons. Bisharp (level 50), Dark and Steel, takes quadruple damage from Fighting. Krookodile knows Earthquake: don’t send out an Electric-type Pokémon against it. Scrafty, Fighting and Dark, fears Flying and Fighting above all.
🔮Caitlin, the Psychic specialist

Bug, Ghost and Dark attacks are super effective. Her Pokémon cover their weaknesses well with Shadow Ball, Energy Ball or Thunder: bet on Dark-type Pokémon, which are also immune to Psychic. Gothitelle (level 50) can boost its Special stats with Calm Mind: don’t give it the time.
👊Marshal, the Fighting specialist

Marshal

- Storm Throw
- Stone Edge
- Payback
- Bulldoze
Ability: Guts

- Karate Chop

Flying and Psychic attacks sweep his team. An Unfezant, a Braviary, a Swoobat or a Gothitelle/Reuniclus works wonders. Beware of Stone Edge, which three of his Pokémon know, and of Mienshao (level 50), very fast, with U-turn and Jump Kick.
👑The Champion’s room
Once all four members are beaten, the passage to the Champion’s room opens in the heart of the building. But you arrive too late: N has already defeated Alder, with the help of his legendary dragon. Alder, exhausted, could do nothing. N then announces the next part of his plan, and the ground begins to shake…
Next step: N’s Castle.
