Driftveil City is the big port of western Unova, inspired by the port across the Hudson from Manhattan. Its Gym Leader, Clay, also runs the city’s mine. Before battling you, he has a problem to settle: Team Plasma is hiding somewhere on the docks.

⚓Driftveil City

When you arrive, Clay explains that Team Plasma is lurking on the docks and asks you to help him find them. In the meantime, take a tour of the city:

  • the market, to the west, sells medicinal herbs, Moomoo Milk and Incense;
  • in the house southeast of the Pokémon Center, a kid trades his Basculin, which holds a Sitrus Berry, for a Minccino from Route 5;
  • in the house east of the market, a man teaches special moves to your starter Pokémon if it adores you.

🧊The Cold Storage

South of the city, the Cold Storage is a complex of refrigerated warehouses. The workers challenge you with their Timburr and their monkeys. In the tall grass, look for Vanillite, an ice-cream cone that will become Vanillish and then Vanilluxe: your best weapon against the Dragon Pokémon at the end of the game. A worker, between two buildings, gives you a Rocky Helmet, which hurts opponents that attack on contact.

Inside the main warehouse, on the frozen area, pick up TM55 Scald, a Water move that can burn. Then look for the suspicious container: that is where Team Plasma has been hiding. Defeat the Grunts lurking there. Ghetsis then appears and manages to get his men away before they are arrested. Clay, for his part, returns to his Gym: the battle can finally take place.
