Olivine City and the Lighthouse

West of Ecruteak City, the meadows slope down to the sea. A farm, dairy cows, then the port of Olivine City and its lighthouse. But the Gym is empty: the Gym Leader spends her days at the top of the lighthouse, at the bedside of her Pokémon.

🐄Routes 38 and 39 and Moomoo Farm

Two country routes link Ecruteak City to Olivine City. Miltank and Tauros graze freely there, but they are rare. Farfetch’d are more common. In Silver, Meowth replaces Rattata.

Beside Route 39, Moomoo Farm is in an uproar: the farm’s Miltank is sick and no longer gives milk. Feed it Berries (you need seven). Once it has recovered, the farmer’s wife gives you TM13 Snore and her husband sells you Moomoo Milk every day, which restores 100 HP: it is one of the best healing items in the game for its price.

⚓Olivine City

Your rival comes out of the Gym as you pass: the Gym Leader is not there, and he has only contempt for those who look after a weak Pokémon. Indeed, Jasmine is at the lighthouse. Before going there, take a tour of the city:

1. In the building to the left of the Pokémon Center, a sailor gives you HM04 Strength, which you can use thanks to the Plain Badge.
2. In the house south of the Gym, a fisherman gives you the Good Rod.
3. A resident is looking for a Krabby and offers you a Voltorb in exchange.

🗼The Lighthouse

The Olivine Lighthouse has six floors, but the climb is not straightforward. Some stairs can only be reached by dropping through an opening to the floor below: explore every floor in full. Sailors, Bird Keepers and Gentlemen guard each floor; in a dead end, TM34 Swagger is waiting for you.

At the top, Jasmine watches over Ampharos, the Pokémon whose glowing tail guides ships at night. It is sick and its light is fading. Only a medicine from the pharmacy in Cianwood City, across the sea, could cure it. Jasmine refuses to leave her Pokémon: it is up to you to fetch the remedy.

Come down from the lighthouse and head to the beach west of the city. With Surf, the sea is yours: set course for Cianwood City via Sea Route 40.
