The Sea Routes and Cianwood City

To save Ampharos, you have to cross the sea. Two sea routes, dozens of swimmers, the Whirl Islands and their distant whirlpools, then a small town battered by waves: Cianwood City, its pharmacy and the dojo of Chuck, a Gym Leader who trains under a waterfall.

🌊Sea Routes 40 and 41

From Olivine City’s beach, surf south. Sea Route 40 runs along a small island where, on Monday, Monica of the seven siblings gives you a Sharp Beak. Sea Route 41 is longer: ten swimmers challenge you there, and Tentacool are everywhere. Nothing dangerous, but bring Repels if you want to move quickly.

💊Cianwood City

Go into the pharmacy first. When he learns that the lighthouse’s Ampharos is sick, the pharmacist gives you the Secret Potion, the remedy that can cure it.

In the house west of the Pokémon Center, a man entrusts you with his Shuckle, provided you have a free slot in your party. He will ask for it back later: take good care of it. South of the town, a photo studio immortalizes your first Pokémon.

Our strategy

Drowzee and Haunter put you to sleep with Hypnosis and then exploit the sleep (Dream Eater, Curse): keep an Awakening. Electrode, very fast, strikes with Thunder and Rollout: a Ground Pokémon neutralizes it.

In the dojo, four Black Belts are training. Big boulders block the way: use Strength to push them and open the path to Chuck. Fighting Pokémon fear Psychic and Flying.

Our strategy

Primeape is fast but fragile: a Flying or Psychic attack knocks it down. Poliwrath is the real danger: it puts you to sleep with Hypnosis, then combines Mind Reader and DynamicPunch, a devastating attack that is guaranteed to hit after Mind Reader and causes confusion. Switch Pokémon as soon as Mind Reader is used. It fears Electric, Flying, Psychic and Grass: Ampharos, Noctowl or Kadabra work wonders.

With the Secret Potion in your pocket, teach Fly to one of your Pokémon and return to Olivine City in the blink of an eye.
