🌸Cherrygrove City

At the entrance to the town, an old man offers you a guided tour. Accept: he shows you the Pokémon Center, the Poké Mart and the seafront, then gives you the Johto Town Map for your PokéGear. The Pokémon Center is free and heals your team without limit: don’t hesitate to come back between catching sessions.

🌾Route 30 and Mr. Pokémon’s House

Head north. Three beginner trainers are waiting for you, including Youngster Joey and his Rattata, who will often call you for a rematch (and will eventually give you an HP Up). In the morning, the grass is teeming with Bug Pokémon: Caterpie in Gold, Weedle and Ledyba in Silver.

At the far north, just before Route 31, stands an isolated house: it belongs to Mr. Pokémon, an eccentric collector. His great discovery is a Mystery Egg, which he asks you to take back to Professor Elm. His guest is none other than Professor Oak, visiting from Kanto: impressed by your Pokémon, he entrusts you with a Pokédex.

📞A Worrying Call

As you leave the house, your PokéGear rings: Professor Elm, in a panic, asks you to come back immediately. Heal up at the Cherrygrove City Pokémon Center before heading east again: a boy blocks your way at the town exit. He has a starter Pokémon… the one with the advantage over yours.

Our strategy

His Pokémon has the type advantage, but it is alone and at level 5. If you have caught a Pidgey, a Sentret or a Hoothoot, send it out to soak up the first hits, then finish with your starter. Use your Potion or let the Berry kick in if your HP drops too low. Losing this battle does not stop the story from moving forward.

👮The Lab Theft

At the lab, a policeman is waiting for you: a Pokémon was stolen while you were away. By telling him about your encounter, you give him the thief’s name: you are the one who chooses it (its default name is Silver). Professor Elm keeps the Mystery Egg to study it and encourages you to take on the Gym Leaders. His assistant hands you 5 Poké Balls: the hunt can begin.

Head back west: next stop is Route 31 and Violet City, the town of the first Gym.
