Three times a week, Johto’s National Park holds a very special contest: twenty minutes, twenty Park Balls and a single Pokémon to catch the finest Bug-type Pokémon possible. It is the only place in Johto where you can find Scyther and Pinsir.

When and how to take part

  • Days: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, all day.
  • Entry: free, at the park’s front desk.
  • Your team: you keep only your first Pokémon; the others are left at the entrance and returned to you at the end.
  • Equipment: 20 Park Balls, and no other items.
  • Duration: 20 minutes of play. You can stop early, but you cannot save during the contest.
  • One catch only: if you catch a second Pokémon, you must choose which one to keep.

The contest Pokémon

During the contest, the park’s grass only holds Bug-type Pokémon, from level 7 to 18. The rates are the same in Gold, Silver and Crystal.
