Between Ilex Forest and Goldenrod City, an elderly couple runs a Pokémon Day-Care. You leave your companions there to train… and sometimes, when you come back, the old man has found an Egg. A revolution: in Gold and Silver, Pokémon breed for the first time.

🛤️Route 34

The road descends from Ilex Forest toward Goldenrod City. Nine Trainers are posted there: Officer Keith only patrols at night, and three Beauties with level 22 to 28 Water-type Pokémon wait at the water’s edge, to the south. If they resist you, come back later.

Keep your eyes open in the tall grass: Abra shows up and, more rarely, Ditto. Catch it at all costs: it can breed with almost every Pokémon.

🏡The Pokémon Day-Care

The old lady looks after up to two Pokémon. Every step you take earns them one experience point; when you return, you pay 100 Poké Dollars, plus 100 per level gained. Pokémon may forget old moves in favor of new ones as they level up: check their moveset before leaving them.

The Pokémon left behind play in the yard

Leave a compatible male and female, or any Pokémon with a Ditto, and walk for a while. When the old man is waiting for you in front of the yard, he has found an Egg. The baby is of the mother’s species (or of the Pokémon paired with Ditto), at its lowest stage.

Crystal

In Crystal, the first time you talk to the old man, he gives you a Mystery Egg that he found. It randomly contains Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid or Magby, with a much higher than normal chance of being shiny, and the baby knows Mega Punch.
