🌊Route 27 and Tohjo Falls
Surf east from New Bark Town. Route 27 alternates between sea, beaches and tall grass; its Cooltrainers have teams of level 30 to 35, including a trainer who fields Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur. Just before the cave, an old lady lives in a small house: if the Pokémon at the head of your party adores you, she gives you TM37 Sandstorm.

🛡️Route 26
You are now in Kanto, on a long road that climbs north. A house lets you heal your team halfway. At the very top, a guard checks that you have all eight Johto badges before letting you into Victory Road.

⛰️Victory Road
Unlike the one in Red and Blue, Johto’s Victory Road has no trainers or boulder puzzles: it is a three-level cave full of powerful Pokémon (Onix, Graveler, Golbat, Ursaring in Gold, Donphan in Silver). Head for the ladder at the top left, then take the only accessible ladder on the second level. On the last level, the exit is straight ahead; a detour to the left leads to TM26 Earthquake, one of the best moves in the game.

Six Pokémon this time, between levels 34 and 38. Kadabra, fast and powerful, is the main threat: a Dark or Ghost attack (Bite, Shadow Ball) stops it cold. Magneton fears Ground (TM26 Earthquake comes in handy), Sneasel fears Fighting and Fire, Haunter and Golbat fear Psychic. Save your best Pokémon for his starter, now at level 38.
The Indigo Plateau is just beyond. Heal your team at the League’s Pokémon Center, buy your last healing items… and save.
