In Hearthome City, the Contest Hall hosts the Super Contests, Sinnoh’s version of Hoenn’s Contests. Three competitions, five categories, four ranks and a secret ingredient: Poffins, those little Berry cakes that make your Pokémon prettier, quicker or tougher.
Super Contests are optional, but they earn you Ribbons, accessories and a lot of fun. They are also used to evolve Feebas, which only becomes Milotic with maximum Beauty.
Dawn or Lucas, your friend from Sandgem Town, is a regular at Contests. Their mother, a renowned Coordinator, can be found at the Contest Hall in Hearthome City.
🎭Categories and ranks
Each Super Contest belongs to a category, which corresponds to one of your Pokémon’s stats:

There are four ranks: Normal, Super, Hyper and Master. Winning a rank unlocks the next one, in the same category. Every victory earns a Ribbon.
🏆The three competitions
- The Visual Competition: you dress your Pokémon in accessories, on an imposed theme, then the audience judges its look. Its stat in the Contest’s category counts for a lot.
- The Dance Competition: in turn, one Pokémon leads the dance and the others must keep the rhythm. Press the touch screen at the right moment.
- The Acting Competition: your Pokémon chain moves in front of a jury of three judges. A move of the category’s type pleases, and some moves have more effect if they follow the right one.
🧁Poffins
Poffins are made at the Poffin House in Hearthome City, west of the Poké Mart. First you need the Poffin Case, given to you on your first visit to Hearthome City (see step 13).
- Choose a Berry: its flavor determines that of the Poffin. Alone, you make one Poffin; with friends over a local connection, up to four at a time, and better ones.
- Stir the spoon with the stylus, in the indicated direction, without spilling the batter or letting it burn.
- Speed up as the batter thickens, then slow down at the end.
- Give the Poffin to your Pokémon from the Poffin Case: it raises the stat tied to the flavor.
