Seventeen types, the same as in Generations II and III: the type effectiveness chart in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum has not changed. What changes everything is how moves hit, now physical or special depending on the move itself. Here is the full chart, the weaknesses type by type, and the dual types that matter in Sinnoh.
Read the chart row by row: the row is the type of the move, the column is the type of the Pokémon receiving it. ×2: super effective; ½: not very effective; 0: no effect.
Against a dual-type Pokémon, the multipliers stack: an Ice-type move against Garchomp (Dragon and Ground) does ×4, and so does a Grass-type move against Whiscash (Water and Ground).

⚖️Physical or special: the big change
Up to Ruby and Sapphire, a move’s type decided whether it used Attack or Special Attack. Since Diamond and Pearl, each move is either physical or special. The types and their effectiveness do not change, but many Pokémon can finally use their best stat with moves of their own type.
It is all explained in our guide Physical or Special?
