🏙️Pastoria City
Heal up at the Pokémon Center. To the north, the Great Marsh entrance building gives access to the Sinnoh Safari: we cover it in step 19. In the house north of the Poké Mart, a boy gives you the Muscle Band if you show him the Pokémon forms he asks for (Burmy or Combee, depending on the version). In a house near the sea, the Move Reminder teaches your Pokémon a forgotten move in exchange for a Heart Scale.

His Starly or Staravia opens the battle: an Electric or Rock Pokémon deals with it quickly. Against his starter, keep your best attacker with a type advantage. His other Pokémon are two to three levels lower: don’t underestimate them, but they shouldn’t stop you.
🌊Crasher Wake’s Gym
The Gym is a big pool whose water level rises and falls when you press colored buttons. Each level opens or closes passages. About ten Swimmers, Fishermen and Sailors await you: take them all on, as they are good training for your team.

Gyarados is the most dangerous, despite its level: Electric is 4× effective against it. A well-trained Luxio or Luxray takes it out in one hit.
Quagsire, Water and Ground, is immune to Electric and only fears Grass, which is 4× effective. Keep a Grass Pokémon for it.
Floatzel, the highest level, is fast and holds a Sitrus Berry. Grass and Electric moves can finish it off; beware of its Ice Fang against your Grass Pokémon.
Crasher Wake gives you the Fen Badge, which lets you use Defog outside battle in Diamond and Pearl, and Surf in Platinum, and TM55 Brine, a Water-type move that doubles in power if the target has lost more than half its HP.
💥The explosion and the chase
On your way out, join Crasher Wake in front of the Great Marsh. An explosion rings out inside: a Team Galactic grunt flees east. Chase him along Route 213. He stops, runs again, stops once more by the sea. You finally corner him on the Lake Valor lakefront, north of the hotel, where he battles you with a Croagunk.
In Platinum, Looker joins you during the chase: he is also on Team Galactic’s trail.
Cynthia and Barry, who watched the battle, come to congratulate you. Cynthia tells you about the Psyduck blocking the north of Route 210 and gives you the Secret Potion to relieve their headaches.
Before leaving for Celestic Town, you can enjoy the Pastoria Safari: the Great Marsh. Otherwise, head to Route 210 and Celestic Town.
